Boat, Jet Ski & Floating Docks in Sydney

A floating dock lifts your boat or jet ski clear of the water and turns an hour of messing about into a five minute launch. That is most of the value: a hull with no growth on it, and a boat you actually use.

Kingtide Marine supplies and installs modular floating docks across the Port Hacking River, the Georges River, Sydney Harbour and the South Coast.

Do you want a dock, a pontoon or a slipway?

They do different jobs. A pontoon is a floating platform you tie the boat alongside, so the boat stays in the water. A floating dock has a section shaped for the hull to ride up onto, so the boat comes out of the water. A slipway pulls the vessel right up onto your land on rails.

Docks are at their best with jet skis and small boats. Above that, the weight and the hull shape start to favour a slipway and cradle instead. We will tell you which way your vessel points before you spend anything.

How a floating dock is built and installed

These are modular floating docks: buoyant sections that sit alongside your jetty or pontoon, with a section shaped for the hull. You drive on, and a small hand winch at the front pulls the vessel the last bit and locks it off. No electrics and no complicated mechanism, which is exactly why they hold up in salt water.

We install every type of dock, secured with brackets we design and fabricate in-house. Whether it’s steel, aluminium or stainless steel, each bracket is made to fit your piles and your site exactly, so your dock stays locked in through every tide, wash and storm.

We also offer free-standing piles sleeved in black HDPE. The sleeve protects the pile from marine borers and wear, and gives your waterfront a clean, modern finish that needs almost no maintenance.

Why get your boat out of the water?

A hull that sits in salt water year round is quietly costing you money. Barnacles, moss and oysters build up, the antifoul works harder than it should, and everything below the waterline ages faster than it needs to. Lifting the vessel clear is the biggest thing you can do for its life, and it means no scrubbing the bottom before every trip.

You will also use the boat more. When it takes an hour to get on the water, a good afternoon goes past and you do not bother. Five minutes and you go. One thing to plan for: a dock sits over public waterway, so there is an approvals side to it. What your site needs depends on where you are, so contact us directly and we will tell you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to build a boat dock?

Once approvals are sorted, most residential docks take one to three weeks to arrive and one to two days to install, depending on size. We prefabricate as much as we can off site to keep that window short.

Do I need a permit for a boat dock on the Port Hacking River?

It depends on your site and the dock you have in mind. The best thing to do is contact Kingtide Marine directly, and we’ll give you clear advice on whether your waterfront needs a permit.

Do you do jet ski docks as well?

Yes, and they are one of the most popular things we install. A modular floating dock lets you drive the ski straight on and lock it off with a small hand winch, which keeps the hull out of the water and clear of growth. We build single and side-by-side setups, and they can go in alongside an existing jetty or pontoon.

Do I need a winch for a floating dock?

Not in the way a slipway does. You drive the vessel up onto the dock and there is a little hand winch at the front to pull it the last bit and lock it off. That is the whole mechanism. If you want your boat lifted right out of the water on rails instead, that is a slipway and cradle, which is a different structure.
