Work Boats & Barge Hire in Sydney

Some jobs cannot be done from land. Water-access-only properties, materials too heavy to carry down a steep block, plant that needs a stable platform over the water. That is what a work barge is for.

Most of our hire goes to other trades: builders, landscapers, arborists and contractors getting their own job done on a waterfront site. You can hire the vessel direct, or with one of our drivers, which is charged on top of the day rate.

What you can hire a barge for

The bulk of it is other trades getting their own construction work done on a site they cannot reach from the road. Waste removal is the other big one: old structures, demolition rubble and green waste taken off a waterfront property by water.

  • Materials transport: decking, piles, stone, soil, concrete and machinery
  • A stable working platform for piling, demolition and over-water work
  • Lifting and winching where a crane cannot set up
  • Supply runs for a boat shed build on a land-locked block
  • Removing an old jetty or pontoon ahead of a rebuild

Hiring with or without a driver

Hire the vessel direct if you have the tickets and the crew to run it yourself. Or take it with one of our drivers, charged on top of the day rate, which gets you the vessel plus the local knowledge that goes with it: the tides, the channels, and where you can and cannot land. Most trades take the driver.

Hire is flexible either way, whether that is an hour, a day or the length of a project. Tell us what needs moving or building, where, and when. We come back with availability and a fixed quote, usually within a couple of business days.

Where the barge can and cannot get to

We work Port Hacking River and the Georges River as a matter of course, from Cronulla and Bundeena through to Oatley and Blakehurst, and we are on these waterways every week. That means we already know the channels, the sand flats at low tide, and which frontages you can land on and which you cannot.

Every booking starts with a feasibility check for your site: what has to move, how much it weighs, and what the tide allows on the day. We confirm load limits and access before anything is locked in. If your job sits outside those waters, ask anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can your barge be used for?

Anything that needs weight or workspace on the water. Most of our hire goes to other providers running their own construction work on waterfront sites: moving building materials and machinery, providing a platform for piling or demolition, lifting and winching, and waste removal off the property. If you are not sure whether it suits your job, just ask. Odds are we have done something similar.

Can I hire the barge without a driver?

Yes. We hire vessels direct if you have the tickets and crew to run one, and we also hire them with one of our drivers. Taking the driver is what most trades do, because you get someone at the helm who works these waterways every week and knows the tides, depths and landing spots. Tell us which you are after when you enquire.

What areas can you deliver the barge to?

Our home waters are Port Hacking River and the Georges River, covering the Sutherland Shire and St George waterfronts from Cronulla and Bundeena through to Oatley and Blakehurst. Need something beyond that? Get in touch anyway. Depending on the job we may still be able to help.

How do I book barge hire?

Call us or send the details through the contact page: what needs moving or doing, the address, and your timeframe. We check access and tides for your site and come back with availability and a fixed quote, usually within a couple of business days.

  • Mick and his team delivered outstanding service and work quality in the refurbishment of our concrete jetty and slipway. Communication was excellent and the end product was of a very high standard, considering the original state of the structures.
