Storm Damage & Insurance Repairs in Sydney

Storm damage repairs

East coast lows and king tides can cause significant damage to waterfront structures with little warning. Common damage includes pontoons dislodged from their piles, lifted jetty decking, twisted gangways and breached seawalls.

Kingtide Marine assesses, secures and repairs storm-damaged structures across the Port Hacking River, the Georges River, Sydney Harbour and the South Coast. We prioritise make-safe callouts and, after significant weather events, are typically on site within days to prevent further damage from the tides that follow. We also provide full documentation to support your insurance claim.

What to do first after storm damage

Stop the damage getting worse. A pontoon working loose on a broken guide, or a jetty with compromised piles, can destroy itself in the next big tide. That is why make-safe callouts get priority: re-tethering pontoons, fencing off unsafe decks, and salvaging what can be saved before anyone moves on to assessment and repair.

How a waterfront insurance claim works

You get in touch with us, or your insurer sends us your way. It runs about fifty-fifty either way. We come out, make the structure safe, then put together a written report on our letterhead setting out what happened and why, with an itemised quote alongside it and photos taken on site.

Most owners submit that with their claim, though we are happy to deal with the assessor directly. Marine structures are unfamiliar territory for most assessors, and a specialist report makes the whole thing smoother. We can also meet the assessor on site if that helps.

Is your waterfront actually covered?

Less often than it used to be. Insurers are making it harder to cover waterfront structures and a number have pulled back from them altogether, so a policy that covers your house may well exclude the jetty, pontoon or seawall in front of it. Check the wording now rather than in the week after an east coast low.

One thing a lot of people do not realise: some insurers push their own preferred contractors, but you can usually nominate the builder you want. Say so early in the claim. If you turn out not to be covered at all, we will still give you a proper report and an itemised quote so you know what you are dealing with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work directly with insurance companies?

Yes. We repair insured storm damage regularly and can deal directly with your insurer or assessor, providing the itemised quote, photos and damage report the claim needs. You can come to us first, or your insurer can send us to you. Either way you stay in control. We just make the paperwork side painless.

Is waterfront storm damage still covered by insurance?

Less often than it used to be. Most insurers have stepped back from covering waterfront and harbour structures, so a policy that covers your house may well exclude the jetty, pontoon or seawall in front of it. Check your policy wording before you need it. If you are not covered, we can still give you a proper report and an itemised quote so you know exactly what you are dealing with.

Can you provide a report and quote for my insurer?

That is standard on every storm job: a written report on our letterhead describing the damage and its cause, an itemised repair quote, and photos taken on site. Most owners submit it to their insurer along with the claim. If your insurer wants more detail or an inspection with their assessor present, we will arrange it.

Can I choose my own builder, or does the insurer decide?

You usually have more say than you would think. Some insurers push their own preferred contractors, but plenty of homeowners tell their insurer who they want doing the work and that is accepted. If you would rather the people who built your jetty were the ones rebuilding it, say so early in the claim.

How quickly can you respond to storm damage?

Make-safe callouts get priority. After significant weather we are usually on the water within days, securing pontoons and structures across the Port Hacking River, the Georges River, Sydney Harbour and the South Coast before follow-up tides do more harm. Full repairs are then scheduled once assessment and any insurance approval are done.

What waterfront storm damage do you repair?

Everything the weather throws at a foreshore: pontoons torn from their guides or sunk, smashed decks and handrails, snapped piles, twisted gangways, breached seawalls and debris across the waterfront. If part of it can be saved, we save it. If not, we rebuild it properly.
