Waterfront Repairs & Maintenance in Sydney

Salt water never takes a day off. Fixings corrode, deck boards lift, piles wear at the waterline and seawalls slowly lose their footing. It happens quietly, right up until something gives way on a summer weekend with the family aboard.

Kingtide Marine repairs jetties, pontoons, seawalls, docks, slipways and boat houses across the Port Hacking River, the Georges River, Sydney Harbour and the South Coast. Most repair jobs run three to six weeks from the time you give us the go-ahead. Plenty of smaller ones are done in a day or two on site.

Repairs and maintenance

Salt, tide and weather are always at work on your waterfront, even when everything looks fine. The parts that fail first are the fixings and hinge brackets, and most of those sit out of sight beneath the deck. They wear quietly for years, then let go all at once, usually when you need them most.

That’s why we recommend an inspection every 12 months, and again after any major storm. It’s the simplest way to catch small problems before they turn into big ones.

We repair and maintain:

  • Jetties: decking, bearers, handrails, piles and gangways
  • Pontoons: floats, guide rollers and anchoring systems
  • Seawalls: resetting and repacking
  • Docks, slipways and boat sheds: from structural repairs to cosmetic work

Free waterfront inspections

Our inspections are free. Give us a call and we’ll come out to your property, the same way we would for a quote. We check your structure above and below the waterline, then walk it with you and explain what we found, standing right there on the deck.

If everything’s in good shape, we’ll tell you, and suggest when to have it checked again. If work is needed, you’ll get a clear written report and an itemised quote, backed by photos taken on the day.

When to rebuild instead of repair

When the repairs get extensive enough that you are paying for a new structure in instalments. If patching it will not get you far, we will say so up front rather than take your money twice.

The cheapest repair is the one you never need. Staying on top of it beats the alternative, which is us picking your jetty up off the seabed because it broke and sank. That is a salvage job, and it costs several times what the repair would have. For storm damage headed to an insurer, our written report on company letterhead goes in with your claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

What waterfront structures do you repair?

All of them: jetties, pontoons, seawalls, boat docks, slipways, skid ramps, boat houses and moorings. We are builders first, so repairs are done to construction standard rather than patched to limp through the season.

How often should a jetty or pontoon be inspected?

Every twelve months, and after any major storm. Be proactive about it. Salt water starts on the fixings and timber from day one, and the things that go first are the timber, decking, subframes and hinge brackets, most of which sit below the waterline or out of sight from the deck. Our inspections are free, so an annual look-over costs you nothing but the phone call.

How long will my repair take?

Most repair jobs run on a three to six week turnaround from the time you give us the go-ahead, which covers scheduling, materials and the work itself. Smaller jobs are much quicker: plenty are done in one to two days on site. We will tell you which yours is when we quote it, not after.

Can you repair storm or rot damage?

Yes, constantly. We replace piles, bearers and decking, refloat pontoons and rebuild damaged sections. For insured storm damage we can also provide the reports and quotes your insurer needs. Have a look at our storm damage and insurance repairs service for the details.

Do I get a written report from an inspection?

Yes. We prepare formal inspection reports on our company letterhead. Each one sets out what we found and includes an itemised quote to fix every issue. Over the years we’ve written reports for councils, homeowners and insurance companies, so we know what each one needs to see. If you need a report for a claim, a sale or a council requirement, we can provide one.

What happens after you build something for me?

We come back. On a new build we make sure we are back on site within three to six months for a check-up, to bolt-tighten and go over everything, and our work is warranted for five years. So we are still around long after handover if anything needs attention.

When is it better to rebuild than repair?

When the repairs get extensive enough that you are effectively paying for a new structure in instalments. If we look at it and the honest answer is that patching it will not get you far, we will say so and talk to you about a rebuild instead. We would rather have that conversation up front than take your money twice.
